Description
SGOT (Serum Glutamic-Oxaloacetic Transaminase), also known as AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase), is a blood test that measures the level of the AST enzyme in the blood. AST is found in various tissues, including the liver, heart, muscles, and kidneys. This test is used to help diagnose liver disease, heart problems, and muscle damage. Elevated AST levels can indicate liver damage or disease, such as hepatitis or cirrhosis, heart attacks, or muscle injury. Normal AST levels typically range from 10 to 40 units per liter (U/L).
