Description
The Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HbsAg) Test is a screening test used to detect the presence of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) in the blood. HBsAg is an early marker of active infection, indicating that the person is currently infected and potentially contagious.
This test is commonly used for:
- Screening blood donors to prevent HBV transmission.
- Diagnosing Hepatitis B in symptomatic patients.
- Monitoring individuals at risk of developing chronic Hepatitis B.
A positive result suggests active HBV infection, while a negative result indicates no detectable infection at the time of testing.
