Description
The Antistreptolysin O (ASO or ASLO) test measures the presence of antibodies against streptolysin O, a toxin produced by Group A Streptococcus bacteria. The latex agglutination method is a common and rapid technique used to detect these antibodies in the blood. Elevated ASO levels indicate a recent streptococcal infection and are useful in diagnosing post-streptococcal complications such as rheumatic fever and glomerulonephritis.
