Description
SGPT (Serum Glutamic-Pyruvic Transaminase), also known as ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase), is a blood test that measures the level of the ALT enzyme in the blood. ALT is primarily found in the liver and plays a crucial role in converting proteins into energy for liver cells. This test is used to help diagnose liver disease and monitor liver health. Elevated ALT levels can indicate liver damage or disease, such as hepatitis, fatty liver disease, or cirrhosis. Normal ALT levels typically range from 7 to 56 units per liter (U/L).
